"Life Is Like A Box Of Loakers"
Issue#21: "Life Is Like A Box Of Loakers"
Some people will tell their life story to anyone who waits at the bus stop with them. Unfortunately for some, Loaker isn't one of those people....
Notes and References:
The strip is influenced and based on Forrest Gump written by Winston Groom and later developed into a classic film starring Tom Hanks and directed by Robert Zemeckis. In the story Forrest Gump, An endearing but slightly dim fellow, tells his epic life story to strangers at a bus stop while he waits to be reunited with his lost love.
This story was written to illustrate the differences and similarities between the characters of Loaker and Gump, Both misunderstood and simple at first glance and then more revealing and interesting if examined further.
Loaker has been compared to other fictional characters in the past such as Lenny from Of Mice and Men.
The film uses the expression "Life is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're gonna get". In Loaker's case and within the story, You always know what you're going to get with this particular crazy gremlin.
Within the film, A feather drifts by Forrest Gump as a symbol of what his life was like- "A feather in the wind". It shows the audience that Gump went wherever life took him and he never tried to shape or confront his destiny or path in life. That same feather is present in our story.
