"The Unimagining Of Feigenbaum"
Issue#46: "The Unimagining Of Feigenbaum"
Part Three of Eight of The Doppelganger Saga
The evil Bartleby and his minions attack Loaker and Feigenbaum, Not everyone survives the encounter...
Notes and References:
This issue is the third appearance of Barnaby's evil counterpart Bartleby. Last issue he recruited Aldbug and Cecil as his henchmen and planned to target Loaker and his pooka.
This is part three of the eight part Doppelganger Saga.
This issue marks the death/unimagining of Feigenbaum. Due to the very nature of Feigenbaum being a pooka
Bartleby's method of dispatching of Feigenbaum is to say his name in reverse several times over. This was influenced by two things-
1. Rumpelstiltskin, A fairytale where an evil imp can only be defeated by learning of his name. The German fairytale was originally collected by the Brothers Grimm in 1812.
2. The Superman Villain Mister. Mxyzptlk, A fifth dimension impish creature, Who can only be defeated by being tricked into saying or spelling his own name backwards. The character was originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1944 and first appeared in issue#30 of the original Superman run.
Also it is interesting to note that while Barnaby is incapable of seeing Feigenbaum, His evil twin is not. This highlights Bartleby's insanity as neither Aldbug or Cecil can see the pooka, Judging from where they are looking in the issue.
